Allergies and safety
Record allergies as structured, severity-rated data — not free text — so they show clearly on the seated floor where they matter.
Updated Jul 23, 2026
Allergy information is safety-critical, so TableStack treats it differently from a note. Allergies are structured data — a chosen allergen and a severity — never free text buried in a comment. This guide covers recording them and where they appear.
Structured, not free text
When you record an allergy on a guest profile, you pick from a defined list of allergens rather than typing a sentence. The list covers the common and legally-recognised allergens:
Peanut, Tree nut, Shellfish, Mollusc, Fish, Egg, Dairy, Gluten, Soy, Sesame, Mustard, Celery, Sulphites and Lupin.
Why structured? Because "no nuts", "nut allergy" and "allergic to almonds" typed by three different hosts are impossible to search, count, or reliably flag. A chosen allergen is unambiguous — the kitchen and floor see the same thing every time, and it travels with the guest across every visit and every venue in your group.
Severity levels
Each allergy carries a severity so your team can gauge the risk at a glance:
| Severity | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Mild | Discomfort, not dangerous. |
| Moderate | Notable reaction. |
| Severe | Serious reaction. |
| Life-threatening | Anaphylaxis risk — treat with maximum care. |
Severity is colour-coded, escalating from yellow through to red, so a life-threatening allergy reads as urgent without anyone having to stop and interpret it. You can also add an optional note for context (for example a specific trigger) alongside the structured allergen.
Shown where it matters
Allergies render prominently on the seated floor — on the seat card for the guest during their visit. This is the whole point: the information reaches the server and kitchen at the table, during service, when a decision is being made about a dish. It is never something a host has to remember to look up.
Because allergies belong to the guest, not to a single booking, a returning regular's severe shellfish allergy is right there the next time they're seated — at any of your venues.
What this affects
- The seated floor — allergies appear on seat cards during the visit.
- The guest book — allergies are part of the permanent guest record.
What affects this
- Your team — hosts and managers record allergies on the guest profile.
- Guest privacy — if a guest is erased, their allergy data is removed with the rest of their personal details.
